As well as the hard-working staff at the bakery and in the kitchen, there are two special staff positions at Café Tomaselli:
The traditional cake-serving lady
With her traditional clothing and her unique way of serving, this lady is the embodiment of the charm of past centuries. Wearing her white apron with ruffles on the straps and hem over a black dress, she formally presents guests with a special selection of sweet delicacies, served on a tray lined attractively with paper doilies. The tray is set down in order to serve the guest then gracefully whisked on to the next guest to present the jewels of Austrian cake baking once again.
These include: fruit gateau, “Sachertorte” gateau, nut gateau, strawberry boat, “Kardinalschnitte” slice, cream slice, strawberry roulade, our house gateau, “Mellanieschnitte” slice, or the creation of the house the “Salzburg Nockerlschnitte“ dumpling slice.
The coffeehouse waiter
Elegantly attired with black bow tie and even a dinner jacket in winter, the waiter greets you with the jovial Austrian greeting of “Gruess Gott!”.
The task at hand is to select just the right kind of coffee to suit the guest’s taste. The classic coffee is and has always been the “melange” coffee (mocca with milk, topped with whipped cream). This will go excellently with the gateau selected or with our strudel.
